Negative Uses of MSN

Although millions of people make good use of msn and instant messaging, there are some negative aspects to this program as well.

The fact that there is no sound or actions involved with the things being said, it is hard to decipher what tone the person means what they are saying in. It is not recommended to be sarcastic while instant messaging, as this may me misinterpreted, and could lead to someone believing the wrong thing. Also, you must pay special attention to using keyboard features such as caps lock, as this could lead to someone thinking you are yelling, even if you aren’t.

While using MSN, it is important to keep in mind who you are speaking to. It would not be appropriate for example, if you used abbreviations while speaking to a business partner, or a formal client. However, this is perfectly acceptable when you are speaking to a friend, or relative. You should keep in mind, that the manners you use on MSN should not vary greatly from the manners you would use if you were speaking directly to the person. So, even though the meaning of the words will not change, the tone that you are speaking in is a difficult thing to achieve.

A few of the consequences of these actions are hurting someone’s feelings, causing a misunderstanding between people, starting an argument, insulting a person unintentionally, or even things as little as causing them to believe that you are sad, when you are not.

Introduction to MSN & etiquette

MSN Etiquette is the way in which you would behave during conversations on IM, email, or chat rooms. If you were talking to a friend on IM you would act differently than if you were talking to a co-worker for example. There are many different ways of expressing ones self while on msn. The manner in which you think you are performing, may not be how the receiving party may interpret it. This is why it is important to be aware of what msn etiquette is, and how to perform properly while communicating on instant messaging.

Msn is a form of software used for communicating with others by instant messaging. The fashion in which it works is quite simple. You “add” people to your contact list by placing their hotmail or msn email address in to the add feature. You can add as many people as you like, and once you add them you can talk to them. There are features once in your conversation, which allow you to change the font, colour, and size. And there are also cartoon faces, which express emotion. They are called emoticons. You can add these to a conversation by typing the command in the type box, or choosing it from a list of other emoticons.

There are many negatives, and positives to this piece of software, but, like anything, you have to decide whether it is worth the negative aspects.
